The SEBDA International Conference 2010

The SEBDA International Conference 2010

at Keble College, Oxford, UK · Tuesday 14th to Friday 17th September 2010

Transforming Troubled Lives: the impact of research, policy and practice on children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

There is increasing international concern about children's SEBD (or 'EBD' or 'BESD' or 'conduct disorders') in schools, at home and in their communities. These young people's troubled and troubling behaviour is often linked to mental health problems including attachment and relationship difficulties; communication needs; disaffection; challenging behaviour; violence; and sometimes youth offending.

To discuss these issues and ways ahead, SEBDA is staging a major international conference at the Sloane Robinson Conference Centre, Keble College, Oxford University, UK, in September 2010. We invite papers from practitioners, policy makers, administrators and researchers that demonstrate good practice, innovation and suggest positive outcomes for children with SEBD and their families.

The major themes of the conference will be: developing staff skills; achieving social cohesion; multi-agency/inter-disciplinary approaches; parents, carers and families; children and young people's perspectives; provision, policies and pathways; ethics in working/researching SEBD.

B4L Comment: SEBDA conferences provide a major opportunity for ITT course tutors and others who have an interest in pupil behaviour and its implications to participate in discussion and debate. The conference planned for 2010 appears to be no exception: the event is characterised by a rich blend of practical approaches, informed by research and theoretical dimensions. It represents an occasion when those involved in ITT can develop their knowledge and understanding of an often misunderstood, and frequently under-researched aspect of education.
